Initial Questions

Q: This can't be free...what's the catch?
A: There is no catch...It is free to you.  The electric delivery companies pay us for work we do in your home.

A: No.  We do not sell or endorse any products.

Q: Will I be switched to a different electric provider after you do the work?
A: No.  Free Lighting Corp or electric delivery companies cannot switch you and have no interest too.

Q: Can you come out to just install lightbulbs?  I am not interested in anything else.
A: No.  We have to pass at least one major measure (duct, infiltration or ceiling insulation) during our visit and then install the bulbs as well.  We can't just install bulbs.

A: No.  You can still be home while we are doing our work.

Q: Who has to be there when work is done in my home?
A: We would prefer the person who called and signed up, however, if you give permission to anyone 18 or over that is fine as well.

Sign up and Scheduling Questions

Q: I have called and been placed on the list but no one has called me to setup an appointment?

A:  Sometimes it could take a couple months to get setup just depending on the areas we are working in.  If its been more than a couple of months, please call our office and verify you are still on the list.

Q: I signed up first but my friend or neighbor got service first?

A: Sorry.  It sometimes happens because you may live in different areas.  Also, if we are calling an area to setup appointments you may have not been home at the time but your friend/neighbor was and it filled the final position for that day being scheduled.  Lastly, it could just be an oversight on our part and we missed calling you and we will do our best to schedule you as quick as possible.

Q: I am low on ceiling insulation, can I sign up just for that only?

A: Yes, but we prefer to do as much as possible for you.  If it can be done, we would like to do duct and infiltration first and then ceiling insulation.

Q:You have already come out to do duct and infiltration but no one has called to schedule ceiling insulation?

A: There are a couple reasons for this.  First, you may have more than 1 existing inch of insulation or you do not meet the income requirement.  Also it could take up to a month for us to get back to you to schedule insulation.  Please call our office if you are sure you qualify.

Q:You came out and did some work a few years ago, can you come back and do it again?

A: No. Under the program if we did a measure like duct or infiltration, we can not do the service again for at least 10 years.  We cannot come out to just install bulbs, a major measure like duct, infiltration or ceiling insulation has to be done during our visit.

Q:Can you do my apartment?

A: In order to do an apartment we must be able to do the entire complex through management.  The complex would have to go through an approval process with the utility as well to make sure guidelines are met.  So we are unable to do a unit at a time for each tenet unless we have permission to complete the entire complex from the apartment management and the utility.

Installation Questions

Q: Why do I have to sign a contract if its free?

IT IS FREE!!  However we need a signature to give us permission to begin work and a signature when we complete the work for proof that you were home and we completed our services.  We also need a signature verifying income if we are installing lightbulbs.

Q: Why didn't I receive lightbulbs and/or showerheads?

A. It could be a few reasons.  First, you must be income eligible.  Second, if we are unable to pass a major measure  like duct, infiltration or ceiling insulation we are unable to install lightbulbs during our visit. Third, if your utility is Texas New Mexico power, their program does not offer lightbulbs or showerheads.  Finally there times in the year where funding for the lightbulbs and showerheads are unavailable and we are unable to install bulbs or showerheads.  Additionally, your water heater has to be electric for us to install showerheads.

Q: Why didnt the crew install bulbs in this room or closet?  What about outside?

A: We are restricted to installing lightbulbs in areas where the lights are on for at least 3 hours a day.  The bulbs do not work on dimmer switches.  Closets lights are not typically on for three hours a day and do not qualify.  We cannot place more than 3 bulbs in bath hollywood type fixtures as well.  The program does not allow us to place bulbs outside.

Q: Can I move the locations of lightbulbs?

A:  We prefer you did not because if the utility sets up an appointment with you, they are looking for the locations we installed them in.

Q: Why didn't the crew do anything in my home?

It could be many reasons.  Here are a few common ones.  The duct system setup can't be done due to the guidelines.  Issues like broken windows or missing sheetrock prevent us from doing the work as well.  Finally our testing indicates your house does not require any service.

Q: My friend had more work done at his house than my house...Why?

A: It's because testing and initial assessment  indicated we needed to do more work and your friend might have qualifed for lightbulbs and/or showerheads and you did not.

Q: Why do I have a large bag full of empty insulation bags in my attic?

A: We leave the bags in the attic in case the utility wants to verify the number of bags we installed if they call you to setup an inspection.  You may throw it out after six months of installation.

Q: Can I tell my friends and neighbors about this program?

A: Of course.  That is how we get more customers is from you.

Q: If I dont qualify for your free service, can I pay for it?

A: All our work is free...You may call the office and we can look at it on a case by case basis.
